Jack Smith, the special counsel who has been fighting the case of the 2020 presidential election and misappropriation of confidential government documents, has resigned before Trump is sworn in on January 20. Jack Smith has resigned from the Justice Department after releasing his investigative report on Trump.
According to a court filing before US District Judge Eileen Cannon, special counsel Jack Smith has completed his work. He submitted the final confidential report on January 7 and on January 10, he separated from the Justice Department. Jack Smith fought two of the four cases against Trump after he lost the 2020 election. However, a Trump-appointed judge in Florida dismissed one case, while three Trump-appointed Supreme Court judges ruled that former presidents have full immunity from prosecution for official acts. Not a single case reached the stage of trial. Jack Smith’s resignation was expected as Trump has often called him a lunatic. He also said that after taking over the presidency, he would oust Jack and take revenge on those who investigated him, including Jack.
