On 26th October 1947, a pivotal moment in history occurred when Hari Singh, the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, signed the Instrument of Accession, uniting the region with India. 

This marked the end of a 16-day-long invasion in Kashmir, repelled by a resolute response from the Indian Army. Amid this turbulent period, several brave individuals, like Maqbool Sherwani, emerged as unsung heroes whose actions played a crucial role in safeguarding Kashmir's integrity.

Maqbool Sherwani's contribution to this pivotal moment in history was nothing short of extraordinary. Disguised as raiders, the Pakistani Army approached Sherwani and sought directions to Srinagar airport. In a clever move, Sherwani deliberately misled them, providing false directions. This ingenious act caused a significant delay in the raiders' assault on the airport, ultimately leading to their defeat.

However, Sherwani's remarkable bravery and heroism did not go unnoticed. Tragically, the Pakistani Army captured him, subjecting him to a gruesome end. Maqbool Sherwani was crucified, a horrifying reminder of the price he paid for his role in thwarting the invasion.

His story serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment of the people of Kashmir to safeguard their land and preserve its unity with India. In the face of adversity, individuals like Maqbool Sherwani displayed extraordinary courage and resourcefulness, leaving an indelible mark on history.

In recognition of the significance of 26th October as Accession Day, the Jammu & Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has organized a series of events to celebrate this historic occasion. These events serve as a poignant reminder of the day when Jammu and Kashmir became an integral part of the Union of India.

The celebrations include a "Vilay Dour Marathon" run, which is being organized by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) under the leadership of its president, Arun Prabhat. The marathon will commence at Major Somnath Park, 4th Bridge Jammu Tawi, and culminate at Maharaja Hari Singh Park, located behind Hotel Fortune Riviera. The participation of key political figures, including J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina and JMC Mayor Rajinder Sharma, underscores the significance of this occasion.

Accession Day is not only a momentous event in the history of Jammu and Kashmir but also a testament to the resilience and unity of its people. The heroic actions of individuals like Maqbool Sherwani, who stood their ground against adversity, serve as a source of inspiration for generations to come.
